Jim's Steakout

I know I promised you some Canadian veggie burger reviews… but I’m doing this in chronological order, and the first stop on our roadtrip was in Buffalo, NY. We went out for drinks (and wow, I always forget how expensive drinks in NYC are until I go out of town and realize I am only spending half of what I normally would!) and then ended up at Jim’s Steakout for late-night munchies as the bars started closing.

I’ll be honest, I really just wanted to order some veggie tacos. But apparently the veggie tacos only come with lettuce, tomato, and cheese. No beans? Really? I wanted something more substantial, so I turned to the veggie burger as my second choice.

It was your typical frozen burger patty, with a very familiar taste. Carrots, mushrooms, peppers, beans, and a faux-meaty texture. Decidedly average, as far as veggie burgers go. I asked the staff if it was vegan, and the answer I got was “I don’t know, the box doesn’t even say”. Very helpful.

The bun was toasted, but otherwise unmemorable. The toppings served on the burger were mayo, mustard (which I’m not a big fan of, but I didn’t realize it would be included until after the burger was served to me), lettuce, onion, tomatoes, and pickles. It satisfied the craving for hot food at 3am after a night of drinking, but I doubt I would return to eat the burger again while sober.

YumVeggieBurger review #59

The next day we crossed the border into Canada, stopping at Niagra Falls to be tourists for a couple hours, before continuing on to Toronto…

  1. Rainbow!! And what a boring burger! But at least they had a veggie burger....a place that serves lettuce, tomato, and cheese veggie tacos can't be expected to have fab food, I suppose. At least you were drunk. Food always tastes better when you're drunk.

  2. I can't tell you how many times I've said, "Just bring me the box, please!"

  3. even then, I've heard some weird explanations like "well we only have the box from the brand we used to get and the ones we get now don't come in a box". It's amazing that so many places don't seem even slightly concerned about being able to inform their customers about their ingredients...

I think Jim's Steakout is definitely the kind of place that counts on its patrons being too drunk to care about allergies or dietary restrictions. heh.
